Casa Kula is a regenerative project to nurture the land, strengthen the local community and create a space for healing and celebration. We are nestled in an avocado grove in the small Mayan village of Tzununa, set to a backdrop of rugged mountains, waterfalls and forests, with beautiful views of Lake Atitlan. We hope you receive nourishment, inspiration and joy from your stay at our home and retreat center. Here is some information to guide your time here.

What's on the Land
Shala
The platform, or "Shala", at Casa Kula is an open air wood structure with stunning views of Lake Atitlan. It can comfortably hold 20 people for movement practices. |
Dining Area / Kitchen
The beautiful open air dining area, lovingly called "Fairy Station" can comfortably sit up to 20 people. Visit our Fairy Kitchen page for more information about our amazing menus and meal options. |
Sauna
The Sauna at Casa Kula is a beautiful natural build using Lyme plaster and natural drainage and can hold up to 25 participants. |
Rooms
We have 19 beds on site in 10 different structures. The details and photos of each structure can be found in our Rooms Page. |
The Gardens
The gardens at Casa Kula are truly breathtaking and must be experienced to be appreciated. In addition to expansive landscaping, Casa Kula also grows a substantial amount of food, has a worm farm, chicken coop and green house. Please let us know if you'd like a guided tour of the permaculture systems and medicine gardens. |
Life at Casa Kula
Leave No Trace: We live close to the land at Casa Kula, so please act accordingly. Be sure to dispose of waste in the appropriate waste or compost bin. Guatemala has poor waste disposal and recycling systems, so please bring as little plastic onto the land as possible.
Disconnect to Reconnect! While wifi access is available at Casa Kula, we encourage everyone to disconnect as much as possible to take time to connect to the beautiful surroundings and most of all with yourself.
How to Use the Kitchen: The kitchen will be run by our team who will prepare the meals for everyone. You can bring your own snacks or food but be aware: storage space in our critter-proof storage areas is limited and there is no food allowed in rooms as it attracts ants and other critters.
Large carafes of tea will be made in the morning and evening with the herbs coming from our gardens. Also, filtered spring water is available in the kitchen. Our napkins are made by a women's cooperative in Guatemala.
Dishes: After meals, please scrape any food waste from your plate into the compost bucket. Rinse your dish and place it in the sink.
Laundry: While we do not provide laundry service, there are laundry mats in our village of Tzununa that will provide next day service and generally do a decent job for very affordable prices.
Pet Policy: While we love pets, we have a strict no pet policy at Casa Kula. This is mostly due to the four dogs who live on site and don't appreciate furry visitors on their territory. Please contact us if you have a service animal.
